Design improvements for ammonia-fed SOFC systems through power rating, cascade design and fuel recirculation

In this paper, design strategies for improving electrical efficiency, thermal and fuel utilization of an ammonia-fed SOFC are investigated. Three presented to improve system performances: (i) the introduction additional stack distribute power i.e. rating, (ii) evaluation anode off gasses recirculation (iii) use operate a cascade (re-powering), where flue gas is recuperated. A that integrates these new features modelled with zero-dimension thermodynamic equations. The three were evaluated net efficiency heat exchanger area as main parameters. rating allows reduce surface while repowering suitable increase efficiency. With integration solutions, it possible achieve in from 52.1% 66% reduction 67% compared reference does not consider any proposed strategies.
